Large scale software projects are highly vulnerable to various types of defect and delivering perfect software to the satisfaction of customer is simply a nightmare for developer’s team. Aspect-Oriented Software Development (AOSD) is an emerging technique that attempts to address this issue by focusing primarily on modularity and composition mechanism of localized features, functions and information content that have impact across the software system. It is based on the concept of concerns that cut across the project. Poor modularization of concerns across the program is normally considered to be responsible for the defects remaining in the projects even after delivery. A set of metrics have been defined by various authors in order to measure Aspect-Oriented Software's factors like complexity, coupling, cohesion and defect, primarily employed for managing and assessing the quality of software. In this paper, we give a detailed overview of an Aspect-Oriented Programming (AOP) based metrics suite and a correlation between defect and crosscutting concern using two medium size open source projects: Myler and dbViZ. The empirical study conducted reveals that more scattered the implementation of a concern is, the more likely it is to have defects. All the measures we investigated were effective predictors of defects. We also found that the size of the concern alone, in terms of lines of code, was the strongest predictor of defects.
[[2011,8,10
["Retracted December 14, 2011:
An empirical assessment of metrics suite of AOSD in open source projects
[[2011,8,4
ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes
[[2026,5,17
[[2011,8,4
[[2011,8,4
10.1145/1988997.1989021
["0163-5948
[[2011,8,4
