This is achieved by increasing their awareness to what CS is, and exposing them to the essence of a hi-tech environment and to same gender role models. Female software engineers at Google's Israel R&D Center in collaboration with the Israeli National Center undertook the initiative for computer science teachers. We describe the initiative and its impact on the female pupils' interest in CS. One of our conclusions is that even a short visit to a hi-tech company, in this case - Google, has the potential to change pupils' perception of what CS is and to increase their interest in CS and their desire to study it. One could easily adapt this initiative to other companies and scale it to infl uence a rather large population.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2003616.2003637","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,10,15]],"date-time":"2012-10-15T19:22:23Z","timestamp":1350328943000},"page":"64-70","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Mind the (gender) gap"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"given":"Larisa","family":"Eidelman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel"}]},{"given":"Orit","family":"Hazzan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel"}]},{"given":"Tami","family":"Lapidot","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Technion - Israel Institute of Technology, Haifa, Israel"}]},{"given":"Yossi","family":"Matias","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Israel R&D Center, Google, Tel Aviv, Israel"}]},{"given":"Daniela","family":"Raijman","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Israel R&D Center, Google, Tel Aviv, Israel"}]},{"given":"Michal","family":"Segalov","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Israel R&D Center, Google, Tel Aviv, Israel"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,8,31]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","first-page":"36","volume-title":"M.
