Specialized, cost effective network devices, such as firewalls and intrusion detection systems can be implemented with off the shelf components. At the heart of the performance increase is the computer microarchitecture, comprised of the CPU, peripheral buses and the memory interface. Intel has recently unveiled their next generation core microarchitecture called \"Sandy Bridge\". In this paper, we present some initial network I\/O performance results of the Sandy Bridge microarchitecture platform. The results are compared to the previous Intel microarchitecture, \"Nehalem\".<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2034832.2034846","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2011,9,20]],"date-time":"2011-09-20T13:48:54Z","timestamp":1316526534000},"page":"53-55","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["In the network"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"39","author":[{"given":"Nuutti","family":"Varis","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Aalto University School of Science, Aalto, Finland"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Jukka","family":"Manner","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Aalto University School of Science, Aalto, Finland"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2011,9,15]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","volume-title":"Internet Engineering Task Force","author":"Bradner S.","year":"1999","unstructured":"S.
