This rule scales tasks in a very interesting way: a one-minute task explodes by a factor of 120 to take two hours. A one-hour job explodes by \"only\" a factor 48 to take two days, while a one-day job grows by a factor of 14 to take two weeks.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2090147.2108597","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,10,19]],"date-time":"2012-10-19T12:16:45Z","timestamp":1350649005000},"page":"40-42","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["The Hyperdimensional Tar Pit"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"Poul-Henning","family":"Kamp","sequence":"first","affiliation":[],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2012,1,23]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/2090147.2108597","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/2090147.2108597","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T13:56:10Z","timestamp":1750254970000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/2090147.2108597"}},"subtitle":["Make a guess, double the number, and then move to the next larger unit of time."],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2012,1]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"1","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2012,1]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/2090147.2108597"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/2090147.2108597","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2012,1]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2012-01-23","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
