A natural way to tackle the problem is to take advantage of the multiple network interfaces on our mobile devices, and use all the networks around us. Using multiple networks at a time makes makes possible faster connections, seamless connectivity and potentially lower usage charges. The goal of this paper is to explore how to make use of all the networks with today's technology. Specifically, we prototyped a solution on an Android phone. Using our prototype, we demonstrate the benefits (and difficulties) of using multiple networks at the same time.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2377677.2377763","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,9,25]],"date-time":"2012-09-25T23:48:08Z","timestamp":1348616888000},"page":"455-460","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["Making use of all the networks around us"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"42","author":[{"given":"Kok-Kiong","family":"Yap","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Te-Yuan","family":"Huang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, CA, USA"}]},{"given":"Masayoshi","family":"Kobayashi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"NEC, Kanagawa, Japan"}]},{"given":"Yiannis","family":"Yiakoumis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, USA"}]},{"given":"Nick","family":"McKeown","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, USA"}]},{"given":"Sachin","family":"Katti","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, USA"}]},{"given":"Guru","family":"Parulkar","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Stanford University, Stanford, USA"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2012,9,24]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","unstructured":"Intents and Intent Filters. http:\/\/developer.android.com\/guide\/topics\/intents\/intents-filters.html.
