More and more SE researchers are conducting empirical studies involving the software industry. While there are established empirical procedures, relatively little is known about the dynamics of conducting empirical studies in the complex industrial environments. For example, what are the impediments and how should they best be handled. This was the primary driver for organising CESI 2013, held on 20th May, 2013. Thus, the theme of the workshop was \"conducting empirical studies in industry.\" This report summarises the workshop details and the proceedings of the day.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2557833.2557856","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2014,2,18]],"date-time":"2014-02-18T14:08:32Z","timestamp":1392732512000},"page":"24-27","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["1st international workshop on conducting empirical studies in industry (CESI 2013)"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"39","author":[{"given":"Xavier","family":"Franch","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University Polit\u00f1ica de Catalunya, Barcelona, Spain"}]},{"given":"Nazim H.","family":"Madhavji","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Western Ontario, London, Canada"}]},{"given":"Bill","family":"Curtis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"CAST Software, Fort Worth, Texas, USA"}]},{"given":"Larry","family":"Votta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Brincos, Sammamish, WA, USA"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2014,2,11]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","volume-title":"Case Study Research: Design and Methods","author":"Yin R.K.","unstructured":"J.
