Specifically, several researchers have shown how different online privacy decisions are correlated with the \"Big Five\" personality traits. However, in our own research, we show that the five factor model is actually a weak predictor of privacy preferences and behaviors, and that other well-studied individual differences in the psychology literature are much stronger predictors. We describe the results of several experiments that showed how decision-making style and risk-taking attitudes are strong predictors of privacy attitudes, as well as a new scale that we developed to measure security behavior intentions. Finally, we show that privacy and security attitudes are correlated, but orthogonal.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2738210.2738215","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2015,2,23]],"date-time":"2015-02-23T15:32:19Z","timestamp":1424705539000},"page":"22-28","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":42,"title":["Predicting privacy and security attitudes"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"45","author":[{"given":"Serge","family":"Egelman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"International Computer Science Institute, Berkeley, CA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Eyal","family":"Peer","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Bar-Ilan University, Ramat Gan, Israel"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2015,2,19]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/11957454_3"},{"issue":"3","key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"252","DOI":"10.1017\/S1930297500001455","article-title":"The decision making individual differences inventory and guidelines for the study of individual differences in judgment and decision-making research","volume":"6","author":"Appelt K.
