MuMe systems range from purely generative ones to a variety of interactive systems, such as those for computer-assisted composition and computer-assisted sound design. In order to better appreciate the many dimensions of this interdisciplinary domain and see how it overlaps and differs from research in computer music, this introduction provides a general entry point. After defining and introducing the domain, its context, and some of its terminology, we reflect on some challenges and opportunities for the field as a whole.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/2930672","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,1,10]],"date-time":"2017-01-10T15:41:17Z","timestamp":1484062877000},"page":"1-14","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":26,"title":["An Introduction to Musical Metacreation"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"14","author":[{"given":"Philippe","family":"Pasquier","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Interactive Art + Technology, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada"}]},{"given":"Arne","family":"Eigenfeldt","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"School for the Contemporary Arts, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, Canada"}]},{"given":"Oliver","family":"Bown","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Art and Design, University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia"}]},{"given":"Shlomo","family":"Dubnov","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Science, University of California at San Diego, San Diego, USA"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,1,10]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/2967506"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/MCI.2010.938364"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_3_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1162\/014892699559896"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_4_1","volume-title":"Proceedings of ECAL 2007 Workshop on Music and Artificial Life (MusicAL","author":"Beyls P.","year":"2007","unstructured":"P.
