Yet many new CS educators experience relatively little educator training - and face more questions than answers, e.g., What different career-path choices do CS educators pursue? How do I choose an institution or career path that is right for me? How can I balance teaching, research, service, and a life beyond all those things? What are the balancing acts involved in working effectively with colleagues and managing the advancement and tenure process? What tips could help me organize a course, deliver engaging lectures, and build lasting relationships with students?<\/jats:p>\n          <jats:p>The New Educators Workshop (NEW) is a pre-symposium event at SIGCSE 2018 that, through presentations, discussions, and small-group community building, will tackle all of these questions. NEW is designed to assist aspiring and early-career educators in exploring the non-research facets of an academic career. It will run on February 21, 2018 from 9am to 5pm, and is open to graduate students who are considering teaching-related careers, as well as pre-tenure faculty members seeking guidance and\/or networking support. The 2018 NEW is one of several career-focused, SIGCSE-affiliated workshops that have served more than 200 educators over the past decade.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3157823.3157826","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,11,6]],"date-time":"2017-11-06T13:30:18Z","timestamp":1509975018000},"page":"6-6","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":0,"title":["SIGCSE 2018 new educator workshop"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"49","author":[{"given":"Andrea","family":"Danyluk","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Williams College"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Zachary","family":"Dodds","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Harvey Mudd College"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,11,3]]},"container-title":["ACM SIGCSE Bulletin"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3157823.3157826","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/3157823.3157826","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,18]],"date-time":"2025-06-18T02:11:30Z","timestamp":1750212690000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3157823.3157826"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017,11,3]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"4","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2017,11,3]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/3157823.3157826"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/3157823.3157826","relation":{},"ISSN":["0097-8418"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"0097-8418"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017,11,3]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2017-11-03","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
