Investigating different implementation and design choices is not feasible or practical on real systems. Therefore, we propose BlockSim as a framework to build discrete-event dynamic system models for blockchain systems. BlockSim is organized in three layers: incentive layer, connector layer and system layer and is implemented in Python. This paper introduces BlockSim, with a particular emphasis on the modeling and simulation of block creation through the Proof of Work consensus algorithm.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3308897.3308956","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,1,28]],"date-time":"2019-01-28T14:01:39Z","timestamp":1548684099000},"page":"135-138","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":90,"title":["BlockSim"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"46","author":[{"given":"Maher","family":"Alharby","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]},{"given":"Aad","family":"van Moorsel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Newcastle University, Newcastle upon Tyne, United Kingdom"}],"role":[{"vocabulary":"crossref","role":"author"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,1,25]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/3184407.3184441"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","volume-title":"The blockchain as a software connector,\" in WICSA","author":"Xu X.","year":"2016","unstructured":"X.
