Interact."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2020,8,31]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>\n            Existing voice-based interfaces have limited support for text editing, especially when\n            <jats:italic>seeing<\/jats:italic>\n            the text is difficult, e.g., while walking or cooking. This research develops voice interaction techniques for eyes-free text editing. First, with a Wizard-of-Oz study, we identified two primary user strategies: using commands, e.g., \u201c&lt;scps&gt;replace&lt;\/scps&gt;\n            <jats:italic>go<\/jats:italic>\n            with\n            <jats:italic>goes<\/jats:italic>\n            \u201d and re-dictating over an erroneous portion, e.g., correcting \u201che go there\u201d by saying \u201che goes there.\u201d To support these user strategies with an actual system implementation, we developed two eyes-free voice interaction techniques,\n            <jats:italic>Commanding<\/jats:italic>\n            and\n            <jats:italic>Re-dictation<\/jats:italic>\n            , and evaluated them with a controlled experiment. Results showed that while Re-dictation performs significantly better for more semantically complex edits, Commanding is more suitable for making one-word edits, especially deletions. We developed\n            <jats:italic>VoiceRev<\/jats:italic>\n            to combine both the techniques in the same interface and evaluated it with realistic tasks.
