While the hyperscalers have benefited from these gains in power efficiency, most of the industry is still waiting. The Open Compute Project was started as an effort to allow other companies running datacenters to benefit from the power efficiencies as well. If more organizations run rack-scale architectures in their datacenters, the wasted carbon emissions caused by conventional servers can be lessened.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3400899.3402527","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2020,5,26]],"date-time":"2020-05-26T00:05:29Z","timestamp":1590451529000},"page":"5-18","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Power to the People"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"18","author":[{"given":"Jessie","family":"Frazelle","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Oxide Computer Company"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2020,5,25]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3400899.3402527","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/3400899.3402527","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,17]],"date-time":"2025-06-17T22:38:43Z","timestamp":1750199923000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3400899.3402527"}},"subtitle":["Reducing datacenter carbon footprints"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,30]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,30]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/3400899.3402527"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/3400899.3402527","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"1542-7730"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1542-7749"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2020,4,30]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2020-05-25","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
