To support clinical treatments of substance use disorders (SUDs), formal non-clinical peer recovery support programs pairing coaches with people new to recovery are gaining in popularity. Using a user-centered design approach, we designed a mobile application to support the peer coach recovery program of a health system. The application addresses the needs associated with the coaches' workflows, encompasses social supports for recoverees, and provides a space for fostering the coach-recoveree relationship. Finally, we then evaluated a prototype with recoverees and program coaches. Through this process, we identified tensions between stakeholder needs and translated these tensions into design features and future design considerations.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3449186","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,4,22]],"date-time":"2021-04-22T17:49:24Z","timestamp":1619113764000},"page":"1-31","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":10,"title":["User-Centered Design of a Mobile App to Support Peer Recovery in a Clinical Setting"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"5","author":[{"given":"Jessica A.","family":"Pater","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Chanda","family":"Phelan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Victor P.","family":"Cornet","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Research Center, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Ryan","family":"Ahmed","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Health, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Sarah","family":"Colletta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Research Center, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Erik","family":"Hess","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Nashville, TN, USA"}]},{"given":"Connie","family":"Kerrigan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Behavioral Health, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]},{"given":"Tammy","family":"Toscos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Parkview Research Center, Fort Wayne, IN, USA"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,4,22]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1037\/h0095071"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0020764009345062"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_5_1","volume-title":"Behavioral Health Barometer: United States, 2014","author":"Substance","year":"2015","unstructured":"Substance Abuse et al. 2015.
