Due to its complex nature, precise segmentation is not a trivial task. Recently, deep learning has been proved as an effective option for pathology image processing. However, its efficiency is highly restricted by inconsistent annotation quality. In this article, we propose an accurate and noise-tolerant segmentation approach to overcome the aforementioned issues. This approach consists of two main parts: a preprocessing module for data augmentation and a new neural network architecture, ANT-UNet. Experimental results demonstrate that, even on a noisy dataset, the proposed approach can achieve more accurate segmentation with 6% to 35% accuracy improvement versus other commonly used segmentation methods. In addition, the proposed architecture is hardware friendly, which can reduce the amount of parameters to one-tenth of the original and achieve 1.7\u00d7 speed-up.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3451213","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,12,31]],"date-time":"2021-12-31T14:34:17Z","timestamp":1640961257000},"page":"1-17","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["ANT-UNet: Accurate and Noise-Tolerant Segmentation for Pathology Image Processing"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"18","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4947-2917","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Yufei","family":"Chen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China"}]},{"given":"Tingtao","family":"Li","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China"}]},{"given":"Qinming","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China"}]},{"given":"Wei","family":"Mao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China"}]},{"given":"Nan","family":"Guan","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China"}]},{"given":"Mei","family":"Tian","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China"}]},{"given":"Hao","family":"Yu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Southern University of Science and Technology, Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, China"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-2610-7522","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Cheng","family":"Zhuo","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,12,31]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_3_2_2_2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.2217\/iim.09.9"},{"key":"e_1_3_2_3_2","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Anant Madabhushi and George Lee. 2016.
