The first iteration of this vision materialized in the form of a three day workshop in Portsmouth, New Hampshire attended by 24 researchers across academia and industry. Attendees pre-submitted one or more topics that they want to pitch at the meeting. Then over the three days during the workshop, we self-organized into groups and worked on six specific proposals of common interest. In this report, we present an overview of the workshop and brief summaries of the six proposals that resulted from the workshop.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3458553.3458560","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,3,23]],"date-time":"2021-03-23T22:17:49Z","timestamp":1616537869000},"page":"62-75","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":1,"title":["Report on the First HIPstIR Workshop on the Future of Information Retrieval"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"53","author":[{"given":"Laura","family":"Dietz","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Bhaskar","family":"Mitra","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft, Montreal, QC, Canada"}]},{"given":"Jeremy","family":"Pickens","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"OpenText"}]},{"given":"Hana","family":"Anber","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Sandeep","family":"Avula","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of North Carolina"}]},{"given":"Asia","family":"Biega","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft"}]},{"given":"Adrian","family":"Boteanu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Amazon"}]},{"given":"Shubham","family":"Chatterjee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Jeff","family":"Dalton","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Glasgow"}]},{"given":"Laura","family":"Dietz","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Shiri","family":"Dori-Hacohen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"AuCoDe"}]},{"given":"John","family":"Foley","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Smith College"}]},{"given":"Henry","family":"Feild","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Endicott College"}]},{"given":"Ben","family":"Gamari","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Well-Typed"}]},{"given":"Rosie","family":"Jones","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Spotify"}]},{"given":"Pallika","family":"Kanani","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Oracle"}]},{"given":"Sumanta","family":"Kashyapi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Widad","family":"Machmouchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft"}]},{"given":"Bhaskar","family":"Mitra","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft"}]},{"given":"Matthew","family":"Mitsui","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Rutgers University"}]},{"given":"Steve","family":"Nole","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"Alexandre Tachard","family":"Passos","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Google"}]},{"given":"Jeremy","family":"Pickens","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"OpenText"}]},{"given":"Jordan","family":"Ramsdell","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of New Hampshire"}]},{"given":"Adam","family":"Roegiest","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Kira Systems"}]},{"given":"David","family":"Smith","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Northeastern University"}]},{"given":"Alessandro","family":"Sordoni","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Microsoft"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,3,23]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/2215676.2215678"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","volume-title":"Ms marco: A human generated machine reading comprehension dataset. arXiv preprint arXiv:1611.09268","author":"Bajaj P.","year":"2016","unstructured":"P.
