A new CAD program created for the modern world would lower the barrier to building hardware, decrease the time of development, and usher in a new era of building. The tools used to build with today are supported on the shoulders of giants, but a lot could be done to make them even better. At some point, mechanical CAD lost some of its roots of innovation. Let's dive into a few of the problems with the CAD programs that exist today and see how to make them better.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3466132.3469844","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2021,6,6]],"date-time":"2021-06-06T22:04:52Z","timestamp":1623017092000},"page":"5-16","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["A New Era for Mechanical CAD"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"19","author":[{"given":"Jessie","family":"Frazelle","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Oxide Computer Company"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2021,6,6]]},"container-title":["Queue"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3466132.3469844","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1145\/3466132.3469844","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,6,17]],"date-time":"2025-06-17T20:18:18Z","timestamp":1750191498000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/dl.acm.org\/doi\/10.1145\/3466132.3469844"}},"subtitle":["Time to move forward from decades-old design"],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2021,4,30]]},"references-count":0,"journal-issue":{"issue":"2","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2021,4,30]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1145\/3466132.3469844"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/3466132.3469844","relation":{},"ISSN":["1542-7730","1542-7749"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1542-7730","type":"print"},{"value":"1542-7749","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2021,4,30]]},"assertion":[{"value":"2021-06-06","order":2,"name":"published","label":"Published","group":{"name":"publication_history","label":"Publication History"}}]}}
