We identify the roles participating in the environment development and the means for delegating part of the behaviour definition to the end users. We focus in particular on enabling end users to define the environment behaviour. The solution exploits a taxonomy defining common virtual objects having high-level actions for specifying event-condition-action rules readable as natural language sentences. End users exploit such actions to define the environment behaviour. We report on a proof-of-concept implementation of the proposed approach, on its validation through two different case studies (virtual shop and museum), and on evaluating the approach with expert users.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3534517","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,17]],"date-time":"2022-06-17T17:36:27Z","timestamp":1655487387000},"page":"1-35","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":12,"title":["Defining Configurable Virtual Reality Templates for End Users"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"6","author":[{"given":"Valentino","family":"Artizzu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Gianmarco","family":"Cherchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Davide","family":"Fara","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Vittoria","family":"Frau","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Riccardo","family":"Macis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Luca","family":"Pitzalis","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Alessandro","family":"Tola","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Ivan","family":"Blecic","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Lucio Davide","family":"Spano","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Cagliari, Cagliari, Italy"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,6,17]]},"reference":[{"doi-asserted-by":"publisher","key":"e_1_2_2_1_1","DOI":"10.1016\/j.procs.2018.10.062"},{"key":"e_1_2_2_2_1","volume-title":"Rosa Lanzilotti, Antonio Piccinno, and Li Zhu.","author":"Ardito Carmelo","year":"2015","unstructured":"Carmelo Ardito , Paolo Buono , Maria Francesca Costabile , Rosa Lanzilotti, Antonio Piccinno, and Li Zhu. 2015 .
