This technique is limited to lab settings, and, as such, sensing is isolated and infrequent. Thus, it can only provide a brief snapshot of the monitored parameter. Wearable technology brings sensing and tracking technologies out into everyday life, creating longitudinal datasets that provide more insight into the monitored parameter. In this paper, we describe Lumos, an open-source device for wearable spectroscopy research. Lumos can facilitate on-body spectroscopy research in health monitoring, athletics, rehabilitation, and more. We developed an algorithm to determine the spectral response of a medium with a mean absolute error of 13nm. From this, researchers can determine the optimal spectrum and create customized sensors for their target application. We show the utility of Lumos in a pilot study, sensing of prediabetes, where we determine the relevant spectrum for glucose and create and evaluate a targeted tracking device.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3569502","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2023,1,11]],"date-time":"2023-01-11T15:34:01Z","timestamp":1673451241000},"page":"1-24","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":11,"title":["Lumos"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"6","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-6148-5847","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Amanda","family":"Watson","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Pennsylvania, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-1896-4698","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Claire","family":"Kendell","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Pennsylvania, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8438-6104","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Anush","family":"Lingamoorthy","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Drexel University, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-2672-1132","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Insup","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Pennsylvania, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-8167-9163","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"James","family":"Weimer","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Vanderbilt University, USA"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,1,11]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_2_1_1","first-page":"59","article-title":"The evolution of non-invasive blood glucose monitoring system for personal application","volume":"8","author":"Binti Abd Salam Nurul Akmal","year":"2016","unstructured":"Nurul Akmal Binti Abd Salam, Wira Hidayat bin Mohd Saad, Zahariah Binti Manap, and Fauziyah Salehuddin. 2016.
