Thus, novel ways to treat data, in which users are guaranteed control, usability, and privacy over their generated data are needed. In this paper we propose a novel privacy-preserving blockchain framework for a data sharing marketplace. The proposed framework allows users (such as sensors and devices) that generate data to store it in external servers, while the blockchain is utilized to record buy and sell transactions between parties, as well as perform access control by generating access sequences whenever trades are performed. A novel perspective over data ownership is presented, in which whoever generates the data has completed ownership and control over it and the blockchain transactions are only utilized to guarantee temporary access to it. The proposed blockchain framework also supports different types of data and provides, via the distributed and openness of the framework, quality, timeliness and similarity control over the data stored in the marketplace. In this context, different types of applications that can benefit from this framework are presented and open problems are discussed.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3573894","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,6]],"date-time":"2022-12-06T13:07:29Z","timestamp":1670332049000},"page":"1-16","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["A Privacy-Preserving Blockchain Platform for a Data Marketplace"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"2","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0712-9160","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Paulo Valente","family":"Klaine","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-7237-7905","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Hao","family":"Xu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4767-3849","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Lei","family":"Zhang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-4743-9136","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Muhammad","family":"Imran","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow, Glasgow, United Kingdom"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0003-3751-7903","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Ziming","family":"Zhu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Bristol Research and Innovation Laboratory, Toshiba Europe Limited, Bristol, United Kingdom"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2023,3,14]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_3_2_2_2","unstructured":"https:\/\/geth.ethereum.org\/docs\/"},{"key":"e_1_3_2_3_2","article-title":"Secure crowdsensed data trading based on blockchain","author":"An Baoyi","year":"2021","unstructured":"Baoyi An, Mingjun Xiao, An Liu, Yun Xu, Xiangliang Zhang, and Qing Li. 2021.
