To no one's surprise, this essay contends that there is a significant mismatch between what I believe SIGCOMM's goals should be and what our current practices achieve. I then propose a radical restructuring of our conferences that would provide better alignment and, as an additional benefit, a stronger sense of community. However, I wrote this essay not to promote the specifics of a particular proposal, but to encourage our community to (i) engage in a thorough reexamination of how we organize SIGCOMM-sponsored conferences and (ii) seriously entertain the possibility of radical changes in our practices.\n <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3577929.3577933","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,19]],"date-time":"2022-12-19T23:33:37Z","timestamp":1671492817000},"page":"26-30","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Rethinking SIGCOMM's Conferences"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"52","author":[{"given":"Scott","family":"Shenker","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"UC Berkeley and ICSI"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2022,12,19]]},"reference":[{"doi-asserted-by":"publisher","key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","DOI":"10.1145\/1355734.1355741"},{"key":"e_1_2_1_2_1","volume-title":"Conference Reviewing Considered Harmful.
