However, decreasing self-motivation due to different user circumstances such as priorities, lifestyles, and habits affects how users conduct self-tracking in apps and hamper their progress towards achieving health goals. We investigated factors that contribute to increasing and maintaining self-motivation while self-tracking for health goals, as well as the potential applications of these factors in health apps. We conducted semi-structured interviews with 15 participants to gain insights into their self-tracking habits and health app usage. Our thematic analysis suggests that users value convenient self-tracking methods and seeing notable progress changes toward a health goal. These findings reveal design opportunities for streamlining app features, reframing progress indicators in data visualizations, and accommodating user priorities.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1145\/3676501","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2024,9,24]],"date-time":"2024-09-24T13:17:48Z","timestamp":1727183868000},"page":"1-17","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1145\/crossmark-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Exploring Design Opportunities for Improved Self-motivation in Self-tracking and Health Goal Achievement"],"prefix":"10.1145","volume":"8","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0009-0008-3647-7173","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Elyssia Barrie H.","family":"Ong","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-0253-452X","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Briane Paul V.","family":"Samson","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"De La Salle University, Manila, Philippines"}]}],"member":"320","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2024,9,24]]},"reference":[{"key":"e_1_2_1_1_1","unstructured":"[n. d.].
