The area and its tasks are crucial in natural language processing applications. Extensive surveys of this task have been conducted for English and Chinese, but not too much for Arabic. The few Arabic surveys do not cover recent progress and the challenges for Arabic anaphora, and they do not cover zero resolution and comprehensive resolution of zeros and full mentions, or anaphora resolution beyond coreference (e.g., bridging). In this article, we examine the state of the art for Arabic anaphora resolution, highlighting the challenges and advances in this field.
