An eight\nband k.p model is used to determine the electronic band structure for a strained\u2010layer\nIn<jats:sub>.2<\/jats:sub>Ga<jats:sub>.8<\/jats:sub>As\/Al<jats:sub>.1<\/jats:sub>Ga<jats:sub>.9<\/jats:sub>As system. The k.p calculation is performed independently of the laser\nsimulator, and exported to MINILASE\u2010II in the form of a density of states and an energydependent\naveraged momentum matrix element.
