These applications must also be flexible to operate in a rapidly\nchanging environment. Achieving high performance from limited resources demands\napplication\u2010specific architectures, while flexibility requires architectural adaptation\ncapabilities. Reconfigurable computing devices promise to meet both needs. While these\ndevices are currently available, the issue of how to design these systems is unresolved.\nThis paper describes an environment for design capture, analysis and synthesis of\ndynamically adaptive computing applications. The representation methodology is captured\nin a Domain\u2010Specific, Model\u2010Integrated Computing framework. Formal analysis\ntools are integrated into the design flow to analyze the design space to produce a\nconstrained set of solutions. HW\/SW Co\u2010simulations verify the function of the system\nprior to implementation. Finally, a set of hardware and software subsystems are\nsynthesized to implement the multi\u2010modal, dynamically adaptive application. The application\nexecutes under a runtime environment, which supports common execution\nsemantics across software and hardware.
