The key idea is that individual\nclients requesting for the same content can collaborate and share the same\ndata channel. As opposed to broadcasting, this method enables the clients\nto determine online the delivered content, and thus supports on\u2010demand\nservices. On the other hand, a multicast content delivery is much more\nefficient than a unicast content distribution, which must use a dedicated\ndata channel per each and every client. This method is particularly\nsuitable for sessions having a long\u2010time duration, for applications in which\nclients can subscribe to ahead of time, and for applications in which the\nclients receive the same information simultaneously. A multicast content\ndistribution increases the network service throughput in terms of the\nexpected number of clients served simultaneously, and therefore it offers\na reduced waiting time for content delivery at highly loaded time periods.\nIt is shown that the problem of maximizing the efficiency of distributing\na content in a wireless network is NP\u2010hard. An approximation algorithm\nis therefore used, that for any 0 &lt; <jats:italic>\u03b5<\/jats:italic> &lt; 1  finds an approximation solution\nwith a relative accuracy <jats:italic>\u03b5<\/jats:italic>. The proposed method does not require any hardware modification on the network equipment.
