The method\nproposed in this paper is a fully automatic 3D blockwise version of the\nnonlocal (NL) means filter with wavelet subbands mixing. The proposed\nwavelet subbands mixing is based on a multiresolution approach\nfor improving the quality of image denoising filter. Quantitative validation\nwas carried out on synthetic datasets generated with the BrainWeb simulator.\nThe results show that our NL\u2010means filter with wavelet subbands\nmixing outperforms the classical implementation of the NL\u2010means filter in\nterms of denoising quality and computation time. Comparison with wellestablished\nmethods, such as nonlinear diffusion filter and total variation\nminimization, shows that the proposed NL\u2010means filter produces better\ndenoising results.
