{"status":"ok","message-type":"work","message-version":"1.0.0","message":{"indexed":{"date-parts":[[2025,7,30]],"date-time":"2025-07-30T14:39:39Z","timestamp":1753886379465,"version":"3.41.2"},"reference-count":22,"publisher":"Wiley","issue":"1","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2009,6,17]],"date-time":"2009-06-17T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1245196800000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":167,"URL":"http:\/\/creativecommons.org\/licenses\/by\/3.0\/"}],"content-domain":{"domain":["onlinelibrary.wiley.com"],"crossmark-restriction":true},"short-container-title":["Journal of Sensors"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2009,1]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>An adsorption equilibrium and a kinetic study of <jats:italic>Bacillus atrophaeus<\/jats:italic> on Single\u2010Wall Carbon Nanotubes (SWCNTs) were here performed to provide the basis for developing biosensor devices for detecting threatening micro\u2010organisms in water supply systems. <jats:italic>B. atrophaeus<\/jats:italic> spores and carbon nanotubes were subjected to a batch adsorption process to document their equilibria and kinetics. Here, commercial nanotubes were either studied as received or were acid\u2010purified before adsorption experiments. The <jats:italic>Bacillus<\/jats:italic> spores appear to show higher affinity towards the purified nanotubes than to the as\u2010received nanomaterial. The effective diffusivity of the spores onto the purified nanotubes was found to be approximately 30 percent higher than onto the as\u2010received nanotubes. It seems that the removal of amorphous carbon from the as\u2010received nanotubes through a purification process yielded an intimate nantoubes\u2010spore interaction as revealed by transmission electron microscopy. Freundlich model successfully correlated the adsorption equilibrium data for the nanotubes\u2010spore interaction.
