However, skeleton-based methods cannot manipulate a global mesh structure naturally, whereas the mesh-based approaches based on a translational control do not allow the user to edit a local mesh structure intuitively. This paper presents an example-driven mesh editing framework that achieves both global and local pose manipulations. The proposed system is built with a surface deformation method based on a two-step linear optimization technique and achieves direct manipulations of a model surface using translational and rotational controls. With the translational control, the user can create a model in natural poses easily. The rotational control can adjust the local pose intuitively by bending and twisting. We encode example deformations with a rotation-invariant mesh representation which handles large rotations in examples. To incorporate example deformations, we infer a pose from the handle translations\/rotations and perform pose space interpolation, thereby avoiding involved nonlinear optimization. With the two-step linear approach combined with the proposed multiresolution deformation method, we can edit models at interactive rates without losing important deformation effects such as muscle bulging.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1155\/2012\/596953","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2012,5,15]],"date-time":"2012-05-15T21:11:23Z","timestamp":1337116283000},"page":"1-13","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":2,"title":["Pose Space Surface Manipulation"],"prefix":"10.1155","volume":"2012","author":[{"given":"Yusuke","family":"Yoshiyasu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Science and Technology, Keio University, Kanagawa 223-8522, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Nobutoshi","family":"Yamazaki","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Mechanical Engineering, Keio University, Kanagawa 223-8522, Japan"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"98","reference":[{"key":"4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.1467-8659.2007.01048.x"},{"key":"9","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1276377.1276468"},{"issue":"3","key":"10","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"612","DOI":"10.1145\/566654.566626","volume":"21","year":"2002","journal-title":"ACM Transactions on Graphics"},{"issue":"3","key":"11","volume":"24","year":"2005","journal-title":"ACM Transactions on Graphics"},{"key":"12","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.1467-8659.2009.01373.x"},{"issue":"3","key":"16","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"644","DOI":"10.1145\/1015706.1015774","volume":"23","year":"2004","journal-title":"ACM Transactions on Graphics"},{"key":"17","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVCG.2007.1054"},{"issue":"3","key":"45","volume":"24","year":"2005","journal-title":"ACM Transactions on Computer Graphics"},{"key":"20","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1356682.1356685"},{"key":"21","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVCG.2006.47"},{"key":"22","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1142\/S0218654306000822"},{"key":"24","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1276377.1276478"},{"key":"25","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1531326.1531340"},{"key":"26","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1276377.1276457"},{"key":"27","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1276377.1276481"},{"key":"30","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1276377.1276479"},{"key":"35","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/1531326.1531342"},{"key":"36","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.cag.2009.03.022"},{"issue":"1","key":"37","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"15","DOI":"10.1080\/10586458.1993.10504266","volume":"2","year":"1993","journal-title":"Experimental Mathematics"},{"key":"39","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVCG.2005.33"}],"container-title":["International Journal of Computer Games Technology"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"http:\/\/downloads.hindawi.com\/journals\/ijcgt\/2012\/596953.pdf","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"http:\/\/downloads.hindawi.com\/journals\/ijcgt\/2012\/596953.xml","content-type":"application\/xml","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"http:\/\/downloads.hindawi.com\/journals\/ijcgt\/2012\/596953.pdf","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2020,7,7]],"date-time":"2020-07-07T18:45:13Z","timestamp":1594147513000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"http:\/\/www.hindawi.com\/journals\/ijcgt\/2012\/596953\/"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2012]]},"references-count":20,"alternative-id":["596953","596953"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1155\/2012\/596953","relation":{},"ISSN":["1687-7047","1687-7055"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1687-7047","type":"print"},{"value":"1687-7055","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2012]]}}}
