The vehicular ad hoc network (VANET) is one of mobility management protocols, especially providing seamless connection with inter\/intra\/inner vehicle communication. However, each vehicle moves fast that causes short-lived connections with Access Router (AR). Based on vehicles' characteristic, it is hard to provide the availability of IP services in VANET. The most critical issue of the design of scalable routing algorithm is to provide robustness of frequent path disruption caused by vehicles' mobility. In this paper, we pursue the characteristics of vehicles' mobility and analyze them. With the navigation information which is one of vehicles' mobility characteristics, we classify the mobility into intrahighway mobility and global mobility management. Furthermore, we propose mobility management scheme based on route prediction in VANET. Handoffs with intrahighway mobility are managed locally and transparency is provided to CHs, while global mobility is managed with Mobile IPv6. Finally, through the numerical analysis, we show that proposed mobility management protocol reduces handoff latency, signaling costs, and packet loss. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1155\/2014\/679780","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,16]],"date-time":"2014-07-16T22:08:05Z","timestamp":1405548485000},"page":"679780","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":4,"title":["Route Prediction Based Vehicular Mobility Management Scheme for VANET"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"10","author":[{"given":"DaeWon","family":"Lee","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Division of General Education, Seokyeong University, Seoul 136-704, Republic of Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yoon-Ho","family":"Kim","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Division of Computer Engineering, Mokwon University, Daejeon 302-318, Republic of Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-6482-3511","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"HwaMin","family":"Lee","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Software & Engineering, Soonchunhyang University, Asan, Chungnam 336-745, Republic of Korea"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,16]]},"reference":[{"key":"B7-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/MVT.2007.912927"},{"key":"B8-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVT.2010.2062549"},{"key":"B9-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/INFCOM.2012.6195514"},{"key":"B11-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TNET.2002.1012370"},{"key":"B15-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/s11036-009-0187-0"},{"key":"B16-2014-679780","volume-title":"Proceedings of the International Conference on ITS Telecommunications","author":"Ben Jemaa I."},{"key":"B17-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/JCN.2002.6596651"},{"key":"B19-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVT.2009.2015328"},{"key":"B20-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TVT.2011.2157949"},{"key":"B18-2014-679780","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TMC.2002.1081753"}],"container-title":["International Journal of Distributed Sensor Networks"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1155\/2014\/679780","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full-xml\/10.1155\/2014\/679780","content-type":"application\/xml","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1155\/2014\/679780","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2021,5,16]],"date-time":"2021-05-16T19:05:45Z","timestamp":1621191945000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"http:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1155\/2014\/679780"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,1]]},"references-count":10,"journal-issue":{"issue":"7","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,1]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1155\/2014\/679780"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1155\/2014\/679780","relation":{},"ISSN":["1550-1477","1550-1477"],"issn-type":[{"value":"1550-1477","type":"print"},{"value":"1550-1477","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2014,7,1]]}}}
