The composites were characterized by means of X-ray powder diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), and N<jats:sub>2<\/jats:sub> adsorption-desorption, respectively. The gas sensing properties of the composites were investigated. The results indicated that the addition of appropriate amount of g-C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>N<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub> to WO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> could improve the response and selectivity to acetone. The sensor based on 2\u2009wt% g-C<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub>N<jats:sub>4<\/jats:sub>-WO<jats:sub>3<\/jats:sub> composite showed the best gas sensing performances. When operating at optimum temperature of 310\u00b0C, the responses to 1000\u2009ppm and 0.5\u2009ppm acetone were 58.2 and 1.6, respectively, and the ratio of the <mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1998\/Math\/MathML\" id=\"M1\"><mml:mi>S<\/mml:mi><\/mml:math><jats:sub>1000 ppm acetone<\/jats:sub> to <mml:math xmlns:mml=\"http:\/\/www.w3.org\/1998\/Math\/MathML\" id=\"M2\"><mml:mi>S<\/mml:mi><\/mml:math><jats:sub>1000 ppm ethanol<\/jats:sub> reached
