This actuator suffers from the variation of its inductances due to saturation and resistances due to joule and skin effects. Sliding-mode control (SMC) is widely recognized as a robust technique against parametric variations of IM. This control strategy has the advantage of being simple to implement and requires only a simple flux observer. This explains the use of FLT and SMC in this work to control an IM while taking into account the magnetic saturation and heating of the IM.
