Eating habits may contribute to longevity. We characterized the eating habits and cardiovascular risk (CVR) biomarkers in Portuguese centenarians (CENT) compared to controls. <jats:italic>Methods and Results<\/jats:italic>. Centenarians (<jats:italic>n<\/jats:italic> = 253), 100.26\u2009\u00b1\u20091.98 years, were compared with 268 controls (67.51\u2009\u00b1\u20093.25), low (LCR) and high (HCR) CVR (QRISK\u00ae2\u20102016). Anthropometric and body composition were evaluated by bioimpedance. Abdominal obesity, BMI, and fat mass (FM) cut\u2010offs were according to the WHO. Sarcopenia was defined by muscle mass index cut\u2010off\u2009\u2264\u200916.7\u2009kg\/m<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup>. Daily red meat intake, adjusted for age and gender, was sarcopenia protective (OR\u2009=\u20090.25, 95% CI\u2009=\u20090.096\u20130.670, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> = 0.006); however, it contributes for FM excess (OR\u2009=\u20094.946, 95% CI\u2009=\u20091.471\u201316.626, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> = 0.01), overweight, and obesity (OR\u2009=\u20094.804, 95% CI\u2009=\u20091.666\u201313.851, <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> = 0.004). This centenarian eating habit (2%) contrasts to HCR (64.3%). The history of red meat (<jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001) and canned\/industrialized food intakes (<jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001) was associated with HCR. Basal metabolism was lower in centenarians versus LCR\/HCR (CENT\u2009=\u20091176.78\u2009\u00b1\u2009201.98; LCR\u2009=\u20091356.54\u2009\u00b1\u2009170.65; HCR\u2009=\u20091561.33\u2009\u00b1\u2009267.85; <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001), BMI (CENT\u2009=\u200921.06\u2009\u00b1\u20093.68; LCR\u2009=\u200928.49\u2009\u00b1\u20094.69; HCR\u2009=\u200929.56\u2009\u00b1\u20095.26; <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001), waist circumference (CENT\u2009=\u200985.29\u2009\u00b1\u200910.83; LCR\u2009=\u200996.02\u2009\u00b1\u200911.71; HCR\u2009=\u2009104.50\u2009\u00b1\u200911.84; <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001), and waist\u2010hip ratio (CENT\u2009=\u20090.88\u2009\u00b1\u20090.07; LCR\u2009=\u20090.92\u2009\u00b1\u20090.08; HCR\u2009=\u20091.01\u2009\u00b1\u20090.08; <jats:italic>P<\/jats:italic> &lt; 0.0001). CENT had lower total cholesterol, LDL cholesterol, non\u2010HDL cholesterol, and cholesterol\/HDL ratio than controls. <jats:italic>Conclusions<\/jats:italic>. Frequent consumption of red meat, cholesterol, and heme iron rich may contribute to obesity and increased CVR.
