Although there is\nan elegant interpretation of many experimental results in terms of\nnonlinear dynamical systems, the dynamics of bursting\nmodels is not completely described. In the present paper, we study\nthe dynamical behavior of two specific three\u2010variable models from\nthe literature that replicate chaotic bursting. With results from\nsymbolic dynamics, we characterize the topological entropy of\none\u2010dimensional maps that describe the salient dynamics on the\nattractors. The analysis of the variation of this important\nnumerical invariant with the parameters of the systems allows us\nto quantify the complexity of the phenomenon and to distinguish\ndifferent chaotic scenarios.
