We use Bayesian inference on parameters relating to speech rate to investigate how tempo affects timing in Polish. The model parameters found are then compared with parameters obtained for equivalent material in Finnish to shed light on which of the effects represent general speech rate mechanisms and which are specific to Polish. We discuss the model and its predictions in the context of current perspectives on speech timing.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1159\/000450829","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,2,16]],"date-time":"2017-02-16T22:02:19Z","timestamp":1487282539000},"page":"229-255","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Perspectives on Speech Timing: Coupled Oscillator Modeling of Polish and Finnish"],"prefix":"10.1515","volume":"73","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0001-5953-7310","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Zofia","family":"Malisz","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Speech , Music and Hearing, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden; b School of Language , Translation and Literary Studies, University of Tampere, Tampere, and c Finnish Language and Cultural Research , University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland; d Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies , Bielefeld University, Bielefeld , Germany"}]},{"given":"Michael","family":"O\u2019Dell","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Speech , Music and Hearing, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden; b School of Language , Translation and Literary Studies, University of Tampere, Tampere, and c Finnish Language and Cultural Research , University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland; d Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies , Bielefeld University, Bielefeld , Germany"}]},{"given":"Tommi","family":"Nieminen","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Speech , Music and Hearing, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden; b School of Language , Translation and Literary Studies, University of Tampere, Tampere, and c Finnish Language and Cultural Research , University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland; d Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies , Bielefeld University, Bielefeld , Germany"}]},{"given":"Petra","family":"Wagner","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Speech , Music and Hearing, KTH, Stockholm, Sweden; b School of Language , Translation and Literary Studies, University of Tampere, Tampere, and c Finnish Language and Cultural Research , University of Eastern Finland, Joensuu, Finland; d Faculty of Linguistics and Literary Studies , Bielefeld University, Bielefeld , Germany"}]}],"member":"374","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,2,23]]},"reference":[{"key":"2021031011062790120_j_000450829_ref_001_w2aab3b7c10b1b6b1ab1ab1Aa","unstructured":"Abercrombie D (1973): A phonetician's view of verse structure; in Phonetics in Linguistics.
