Karger AG","issue":"2","license":[{"start":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]],"date-time":"2006-01-01T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1136073600000},"content-version":"vor","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.karger.com\/Services\/SiteLicenses"},{"start":{"date-parts":[[2006,1,1]],"date-time":"2006-01-01T00:00:00Z","timestamp":1136073600000},"content-version":"tdm","delay-in-days":0,"URL":"https:\/\/www.karger.com\/Services\/SiteLicenses"}],"content-domain":{"domain":[],"crossmark-restriction":false},"short-container-title":["Public Health Genomics"],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2006]]},"abstract":"<jats:p>&lt;i&gt;Objectives:&lt;\/i&gt; This study aimed to characterize the prevalence of congenital heart disease (CHD) in children born alive in S\u00e3o Miguel island from January 1992 to December 2001. &lt;i&gt;Methods:&lt;\/i&gt; Based on the Azorean Registry of CHD, which includes complete clinical and personal information, 189 patients were diagnosed. &lt;i&gt;Results:&lt;\/i&gt; During this 10-year period, the average prevalence of CHD is 9.16 per 1,000 live births (range 4.77\u201312.75). The most frequent cardiac malformations found were: ventricular septal defect (38.1%), atrial septal defect (12.2%) and patent ductus arteriosus (11.6%).
