This is based on membrane marker studies (E rosettes, receptor for complement, receptor for Fc fragment of immunoglobulins (Ig), and membrane Ig) and by anti-T lymphocyte serum. On the other hand, lymphoblastoid cell lines derived from IM patients show the characteristics of B lymphocytes. This permits the supposition that EBV infects B lymphocytes and stimulates them to proliferate. The cell proliferation is unlimited in vitro and is probably controlled in vivo by T cells. The reduction of cellular immunity in vivo, which contrasts with the high number of T cells in peripheral blood, could be explained by the fact that T cells are engaged in the regulation of B cell proliferation.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1159\/000231320","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,28]],"date-time":"2009-07-28T02:24:43Z","timestamp":1248747883000},"page":"353-363","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":11,"title":["Lymphoid Cells in Infectious Mononucleosis Classified According to T and B Cell Markers"],"prefix":"10.1159","author":[{"given":"F.","family":"Aiuti","sequence":"first","affiliation":[]},{"given":"G.","family":"Rocchi","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"R.","family":"D\u2019Amelio","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"S.","family":"Giunta","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]},{"given":"M.","family":"Fiorilli","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[]}],"member":"127","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,23]]},"container-title":["International Archives of Allergy and Applied Immunology"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.karger.com\/Article\/Pdf\/231320","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/karger.com\/article-pdf\/doi\/10.1159\/000231320","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2026,5,1]],"date-time":"2026-05-01T10:12:06Z","timestamp":1777630326000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/karger.com\/article\/doi\/10.1159\/000231320"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,23]]},"references-count":0,"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1159\/000231320","archive":["Portico"],"relation":{},"ISSN":["0020-5915","2571-6662"],"issn-type":[{"value":"0020-5915","type":"print"},{"value":"2571-6662","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2009,7,23]]}}}
