Cytology samples were maintained in preservative fluid until processing and biopsies were formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded. &lt;b&gt;&lt;i&gt;Results:&lt;\/i&gt;&lt;\/b&gt; Based on endoscopic biopsy results, 70 cases were positive for ESCC whilst 53 were negative for cancer.
