To counter the inertial force, inertial-force feedback was implemented for the Treadport, a locomotion interface. A force controller was designed for a mechanical tether to apply the feedback force to the user. For the case of the user accelerating forward from rest, psychophysical ex periments showed that subjects preferred inertial-force feedback to a spring-feedback force proportional to position or to position control, where the force feedback maintained a force of zero on the subject. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1162\/105474600566574","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2002,7,27]],"date-time":"2002-07-27T11:56:30Z","timestamp":1027770990000},"page":"1-14","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":82,"title":["Inertial-Force Feedback for the Treadport Locomotion Interface"],"prefix":"10.1162","volume":"9","author":[{"given":"Robert R.","family":"Christensen","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical Engineering Department, Computer Science Department, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"John M.","family":"Hollerbach","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical Engineering Department, Computer Science Department, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112, ,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Yangming","family":"Xu","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical Engineering Department, Computer Science Department, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Sanford G.","family":"Meek","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Mechanical Engineering Department, Computer Science Department, University of Utah, Salt Lake City, UT 84112,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"281","reference":[{"key":"p_11","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1249\/00005768-198315060-00007"},{"key":"p_13","first-page":"409","volume":"22","author":"Henry F.
