The first model uses an end-to-end recurrent neural network. The second model, drawing inspiration from the linguistics literature, uses finite-state transducers constructed with a minimal amount of training data. While both models achieve near-perfect performance, the latter model can be trained using several orders of magnitude less data than the former, making it particularly useful for low-resource languages. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1162\/tacl_a_00114","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2018,12,28]],"date-time":"2018-12-28T15:44:07Z","timestamp":1546011847000},"page":"507-519","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["Minimally Supervised Number Normalization"],"prefix":"10.1162","volume":"4","author":[{"given":"Kyle","family":"Gorman","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Google, Inc., 111 8th Ave., New York, NY, USA"}]},{"given":"Richard","family":"Sproat","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Google, Inc., 111 8th Ave., New York, NY, USA"}]}],"member":"281","reference":[{"issue":"6","key":"p_4","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"612","DOI":"10.1197\/jamia.M1139","volume":"9","author":"Chang Jeffrey T.","year":"2002","journal-title":"Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association"},{"issue":"3","key":"p_6","first-page":"1","volume":"21","author":"Ebden Peter","year":"2014","journal-title":"Natural Language Engineering"},{"key":"p_9","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1162\/neco.1997.9.8.1735"},{"issue":"1","key":"p_18","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"69","DOI":"10.1006\/csla.2001.0184","volume":"16","author":"Mohri Mehryar","year":"2002","journal-title":"Computer Speech & Language"},{"issue":"3","key":"p_24","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"287","DOI":"10.1006\/csla.2001.0169","volume":"15","author":"Sproat Richard","year":"2001","journal-title":"Computer Speech and Language"},{"issue":"4","key":"p_25","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"369","DOI":"10.1017\/S1351324997001654","volume":"2","author":"Sproat Richard","year":"1996","journal-title":"Natural Language Engineering"},{"issue":"10","key":"p_30","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","first-page":"591","DOI":"10.1145\/355598.362773","volume":"13","author":"Woods William A.","year":"1970","journal-title":"Communications of the ACM"}],"container-title":["Transactions of the Association for Computational Linguistics"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/www.mitpressjournals.org\/doi\/pdf\/10.1162\/tacl_a_00114","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2021,3,12]],"date-time":"2021-03-12T21:38:31Z","timestamp":1615585111000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/direct.mit.edu\/tacl\/article\/43375"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2016,12]]},"references-count":7,"alternative-id":["10.1162\/tacl_a_00114"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1162\/tacl_a_00114","relation":{},"ISSN":["2307-387X"],"issn-type":[{"value":"2307-387X","type":"electronic"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2016,12]]}}}
