However, several studies have demonstrated signalling by means\n\t\t\t\t\t\tof bright green colouration in Swedish Lacerta agilis males during the\n\t\t\t\t\t\tbreeding season. Unfortunately, most of these studies have been based on\n\t\t\t\t\t\thuman colour perception that differs in several ways from that of lizard. An\n\t\t\t\t\t\timportant difference between human and lizard colour vision is the presence\n\t\t\t\t\t\tof an ultraviolet (UV) sensitive cone in lizards. The available evidence\n\t\t\t\t\t\tsuggests that male sand lizards colorations do not reflect UV wavelengths,\n\t\t\t\t\t\tat least in Swedish populations. However, this study, based on objective\n\t\t\t\t\t\t(spectrophotometric) measures of Pyrenean L. agilis, revealed a secondary\n\t\t\t\t\t\treflectance peak in the UV in male green colouration. This secondary peak\n\t\t\t\t\t\tincreases sexual dichromatism and male conspicuousness.
