Sociol."],"published-print":{"date-parts":[[2025,2,19]]},"abstract":"<jats:title>Abstract<\/jats:title>\n<jats:p>This study aims to analyze and compare the media coverage of femicide cases in Portugal and T\u00fcrkiye, as well as the comments posted by social media users on femicide news stories, to understand the dynamics at play. Therefore, a sample from the Portuguese and Turkish media was collected, and a one-year analysis of the mainstream news sources was performed. The authors observed significant differences between the two countries. The Portuguese media tends to provide little coverage on femicide, not including victims\u2019 age and marital status and only offering a brief description of the crimes. In contrast, Turkish media provide more thorough coverage by incorporating detailed information, including emotional descriptions, and engaging more in sensationalism.
