R.Br. were studied and comparison was made with composition and properties of cork from <jats:italic>Quercus suber<\/jats:italic>. The cells are approximately prismatic, thin-walled, and show appreciable cell wall wrinkling. Average dimensions are 100 \u00b5m in radiallength and 20 x 10<jats:sup>-6<\/jats:sup> cm<jats:sup>2<\/jats:sup> in tangential surface area, but considerable dimensional variability was found. <jats:italic>Calotropis<\/jats:italic> cork contains a large amount of inorganic material: 21.5 % of ash. Extractives' content is 11.1 %, of suberin 5.3 %, of lignin 40% and of polysaccharides 25.7%. Arabinans are the main hemicelluloses. The chemical composition of <jats:italic>Calotropis<\/jats:italic> cork significantly differs from <jats:italic>Quercus suber<\/jats:italic> cork, and this fact may partl y explain the different properties of these two materials.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1163\/22941932-90000468","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2014,2,20]],"date-time":"2014-02-20T17:34:17Z","timestamp":1392917657000},"page":"53-58","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":12,"title":["Structure and Chemical Composition of Cork from Calotropis Procera (AIT.)
