A model of the whole system is established. The laws between the load and the work speed at a milling depth of 8 cm are investigated through simulation and experiment. Whether the utilization of the engine power is reasonable or not is verified through the simulation. The results show that it is reasonable and effective to use the work speed of the cold milling machine as the main control parameter, and the engine can be set to work at its rated power by self-adjustment of the adaptive power control system. In this case, the rated power utilization ratio of the engine is improved by more than 8% and the machine efficiency is raised at least 10%. Furthermore, the error between the machine work speed in simulation and the experimental value is a maximum of 8.1%. The machine performance can be expressed appropriately by the model.
