For that reason, it is essential that, when analyzing the performances of wireless networks, we observe the network in a natural three-dimensional terrain and we use an appropriate propagation model. However, care must be taken since such simulations demand extensive processing power, especially for mobile scenarios. In this paper, we present an extension for the NS-2 simulator with our optimized Durkin\u2019s propagation model based on digital elevation model data. Going one step further in creating a set of realistic simulation environments, we present a case study for modeling the behavior of a wireless ad hoc network via the social network of users grouped into scale-free communities.
