Passenger flow movements, with detailed spatial\u2013temporal information of each agent, are modeled using agent-based micro-simulation. Simulation results are then imported into a 3D VR environment for the assessment of passenger flow organization and its interactions with facility layout. Focusing on the technical implementation of the method, we discuss in detail (1) finely resolved pedestrian simulation using AnyLogic; (2) bookkeeping of spatial positions of agents at the specific temporal intervals in XML format; and (3) interactive photo-realistic 3D visualization of pedestrian movements using UC-win\/Road through its micro-simulation player plug-in, OpenMicroSim. Successfully applied to case studies of three major metro stations in Shenzhen China, this methodology is demonstrated to be capable of evaluating passenger flow organization through visual and quantitative analyses for improving facility layout design. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0037549717715107","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2017,6,19]],"date-time":"2017-06-19T11:28:39Z","timestamp":1497871719000},"page":"841-851","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":14,"title":["A high-fidelity three-dimensional simulation method for evaluating passenger flow organization and facility layout at metro stations"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"93","author":[{"given":"Mingwei","family":"Hu","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Transport Engineering, and also with Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Urban Rail Transit, Shenzhen University, China"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2017,6,19]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr1-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.ssci.2010.07.017"},{"key":"bibr2-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.trc.2007.12.001"},{"key":"bibr3-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1007\/978-3-642-02454-2_29"},{"first-page":"2991","volume-title":"Proceedings of 11th international conference of Chinese transportation professionals","author":"Hu MW","key":"bibr4-0037549717715107"},{"key":"bibr5-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1103\/PhysRevE.51.4282"},{"key":"bibr6-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1002\/bs.3830360405"},{"key":"bibr7-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1038\/35035023"},{"key":"bibr8-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1287\/trsc.1040.0108"},{"key":"bibr9-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.trc.2013.12.007"},{"key":"bibr10-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.3763\/asre.2008.0047"},{"key":"bibr11-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.ssci.2009.12.004"},{"key":"bibr12-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.physa.2012.06.033"},{"key":"bibr13-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.proeng.2012.08.232"},{"key":"bibr14-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.buildenv.2010.04.015"},{"key":"bibr15-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.firesaf.2016.07.003"},{"key":"bibr16-0037549717715107","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.tre.2016.01.004"},{"key":"bibr17-0037549717715107","unstructured":"AnyLogic 8 Library Reference Guides, https:\/\/help.anylogic.com\/index.jsp (2017, accessed 12 June 2017)."},{"key":"bibr18-0037549717715107","unstructured":"AnyLogic 8 Tutorials, http:\/\/www.forum8.co.jp\/english\/uc-win\/ucwin-road-e1.htm (2017, accessed 12 June 2017)."},{"key":"bibr19-0037549717715107","unstructured":"UC-win\/Road Version 12 Operation Guidance, http:\/\/www.forum8.co.jp\/english\/uc-win\/ucwin-road-e1.htm(accessed 12 June 2017)."},{"key":"bibr20-0037549717715107","volume-title":"AnyLogic 7 in three days","author":"Grigoryev I","year":"2015","edition":"2"},{"volume-title":"The big book of simulation modeling: multimethod modeling with AnyLogic 6","year":"2013","author":"Borshchev A","key":"bibr21-0037549717715107"},{"volume-title":"Pedestrian simulation method and technology","year":"2017","author":"Hu MW","key":"bibr22-0037549717715107"}],"container-title":["SIMULATION"],"original-title":[],"language":"en","link":[{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/0037549717715107","content-type":"application\/pdf","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/full-xml\/10.1177\/0037549717715107","content-type":"application\/xml","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"text-mining"},{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/pdf\/10.1177\/0037549717715107","content-type":"unspecified","content-version":"vor","intended-application":"similarity-checking"}],"deposited":{"date-parts":[[2025,3,2]],"date-time":"2025-03-02T00:41:24Z","timestamp":1740876084000},"score":1,"resource":{"primary":{"URL":"https:\/\/journals.sagepub.com\/doi\/10.1177\/0037549717715107"}},"subtitle":[],"short-title":[],"issued":{"date-parts":[[2017,6,19]]},"references-count":22,"journal-issue":{"issue":"10","published-print":{"date-parts":[[2017,10]]}},"alternative-id":["10.1177\/0037549717715107"],"URL":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/0037549717715107","relation":{},"ISSN":["0037-5497","1741-3133"],"issn-type":[{"type":"print","value":"0037-5497"},{"type":"electronic","value":"1741-3133"}],"subject":[],"published":{"date-parts":[[2017,6,19]]}}}
