Extensions like plug-ins and Java applets, which use MATLAB\/SIMULINK for simulations, are integrated into the Web browser. Interactive animation of control engineering experiments can be performed using VRML models of labo ratory plants. The Web-based techniques for realising a virtual laboratory of this kind are introduced and discussed in detail. The main characteristics of this Web-based simulation approach are demonstrated with help of an ex ample from a learning system including virtual laboratory camponents. The central focus of this contribution is on the technical realisation of the most important elements.
