The goal of this line of research is to investigate the combined influence of form and content on information processing and viewer evaluations of television news. Results indicate that the bells and whistles of tabloid production features enhance memory for calm news items but overburden the information processing system when applied to arousing news content. The evaluative measures produced data that show formal features have an influence on the meaning viewers derive from news content and that they rate news packaged in the tabloid format as less objective and believable than stories without these dramatic features.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0093650203253368","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2003,8,6]],"date-time":"2003-08-06T17:43:37Z","timestamp":1060191817000},"page":"387-413","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":104,"title":["News Content and Form"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"30","author":[{"given":"Maria Elizabeth","family":"Grabe","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"School of Journalism at Indiana University."}]},{"given":"Annie","family":"Lang","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Telecommunications at Indiana University."}]},{"given":"Xiaoquan","family":"Zhao","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania."}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2003,8,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Austin, W.
