Results indicate, after controlling for a variety of demographic and behavioral variables, that attention to accident and crime news predicts adolescent risk judgments and mediates the influence of sensation seeking and negative experience on such risk judgments. Moreover, exposure to national TV news moderates these indirect effects, and sensation seeking and negative experiences also in turn moderate each others' indirect effects. Thus, the best characterization of the complex relation between individual differences, media, and risk judgments is one of moderated mediation. <\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0093650207302783","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2007,7,11]],"date-time":"2007-07-11T23:03:40Z","timestamp":1184195020000},"page":"355-381","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":52,"title":["Examining the Moderating and Mediating Roles of News Exposure and Attention on Adolescent Judgments of Alcohol-Related Risks"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"34","author":[{"given":"Michael D.","family":"Slater","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"The Ohio State University"}]},{"given":"Andrew F.","family":"Hayes","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"The Ohio State University"}]},{"given":"Valerie L.","family":"Ford","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Colorado State University"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2007,8,1]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","volume-title":"Multiple regression: Modeling and interpreting interactions","author":"Aiken, L.S.","year":"1991"},{"key":"atypb2","volume-title":"Standard definitions: Final dispositions of case codes and outcome rates for surveys","author":"American Association for Public Opinion Research.","year":"2006"},{"key":"atypb3","unstructured":"Bachman, J.G.\n\t\t\t\t, \n\t\t\t\t\tJohnston, L.D.\n\t\t\t\t, & \n\t\t\t\t\tO'Malley, P.M.\n\t\t\t\t (1991).
