The primary question is whether discussion data display psychological (individual-level) or interactional (group-level) associations among contributions. Two studies are described. The first used a card sort task to group the 42 items from the choose-the-best-candidate task. The second study used the groupings from the first task to code information-based contributions to discussion. Results indicated that participants reliably group the items into valence-based categories and that there were valence-based associations between items contributed to discussion. However, the associations were at the individual level of analysis\u2014there were no group-level effects for information sharing. However, other features of the discussions did have group-level effects, and we argue for a better understanding of information sharing in terms of the comments that frame information-based contributions to interaction.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0093650210377195","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2010,12,14]],"date-time":"2010-12-14T21:23:53Z","timestamp":1292361833000},"page":"356-375","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":9,"title":["An Application of the Socioegocentric Model to Information-Sharing Discussions: In Search of Group-Level Communication Influences"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"38","author":[{"given":"Joseph A.","family":"Bonito","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Arizona, Tucson,"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Erin K.","family":"Ruppel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"University of Arizona, Tucson"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2010,12,14]]},"reference":[{"key":"atypb1","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/009365001028003002"},{"key":"atypb2","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/0363775032000133755"},{"key":"atypb3","first-page":"533","volume":"29","author":"Bonito, J.A.","year":"2003","journal-title":"Human Communication Research"},{"key":"atypb4","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1177\/0093650204269406"},{"key":"atypb5","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.1468-2885.2007.00295.x"},{"key":"atypb6","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/03637750802082078"},{"key":"atypb7","volume-title":"Paper presented at the annual meeting of the National Communication Association","author":"Bonito, J.A."},{"key":"atypb8","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/03637750500111849"},{"key":"atypb9","volume-title":"Multidimensional scaling","author":"Cox, T.F.","year":"2001"},{"key":"atypb10","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1037\/1089-2699.4.1.7"},{"key":"atypb11","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/1467-6494.05027"},{"key":"atypb12","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1037\/0022-3514.84.2.322"},{"key":"atypb13","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.4135\/9781452243764.n7"},{"key":"atypb14","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1111\/j.1468-2958.2009.01347.x"},{"key":"atypb15","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1080\/03637757809375948"},{"key":"atypb16","doi-asserted-by":"crossref","unstructured":"Lambert, B.L.
