Although recent approaches to AA tasks focus on suggesting new feature sets and sampling techniques to improve the robustness of a classification system, they do not incorporate domain-specific properties to reduce the negative impact of irrelevant features on AA. This study presents a novel scaling approach, namely, bucketed common vector scaling, to efficiently reduce negative domain influence without reducing the dimensionality of existing features; therefore, this approach is easily transferable and applicable in a classification system. Classification performances on English-language competition data sets consisting of emails and articles and Turkish-language web documents consisting of blogs, articles and tweets indicate that our approach is very competitive to top-performing approaches in English competition data sets and is significantly improving the top classification performance in mixed-domain experiments on blogs, articles and tweets.<\/jats:p>","DOI":"10.1177\/0165551519863350","type":"journal-article","created":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,11]],"date-time":"2019-07-11T08:50:16Z","timestamp":1562835016000},"page":"683-695","update-policy":"https:\/\/doi.org\/10.1177\/sage-journals-update-policy","source":"Crossref","is-referenced-by-count":3,"title":["Bucketed common vector scaling for authorship attribution in heterogeneous web collections: A scaling approach for authorship attribution"],"prefix":"10.1177","volume":"46","author":[{"ORCID":"https:\/\/orcid.org\/0000-0002-4253-8920","authenticated-orcid":false,"given":"Hayri Volkan","family":"Agun","sequence":"first","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Engineering, Anadolu University, Turkey"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]},{"given":"Ozgur","family":"Yilmazel","sequence":"additional","affiliation":[{"name":"Department of Computer Engineering, Anadolu University, Turkey"}],"role":[{"role":"author","vocabulary":"crossref"}]}],"member":"179","published-online":{"date-parts":[[2019,7,11]]},"reference":[{"key":"bibr1-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.eswa.2016.06.029"},{"key":"bibr2-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.diin.2008.05.001"},{"key":"bibr3-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1109\/TIFS.2016.2603960"},{"key":"bibr4-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.knosys.2014.04.025"},{"key":"bibr5-0165551519863350","volume-title":"Proceedings of the notebook papers of CLEF 2011 labs and workshops","author":"Argamon S"},{"key":"bibr6-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1162\/089120100750105920"},{"key":"bibr7-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1145\/2180868.2180874"},{"key":"bibr8-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.eswa.2016.05.032"},{"key":"bibr9-0165551519863350","doi-asserted-by":"publisher","DOI":"10.1016\/j.patcog.2017.12.011"},{"key":"bibr10-0165551519863350","unstructured":"Stamatatos E, Daelemans W, Verhoeven B, et al.
